Cooking workshop kids - Catalan biscuits (Rousquille)
For little chefs aged 8 to 12 year old
It is NOT a doughnut - though it resembles one - and has a completely different texture and taste. Junior chefs and the food-curious, it's your turn to find out more about and learn to make these sweet biscuits called rousquille.
Rousquille is particular to Catalonia. Historically the region of Catalonia spreads through the borders between Spain and France, and the northern territory, on the French side, corresponds roughly to the Pyrénées-Orientales département. It is also often refered to as French Catalonia or Roussillon.
Just as the region has a Spanish and a French side, there are Spanish and French rousquilles. Of course we will be doing the French one : a ring-shaped, soft and crumbly pastry covered with a layer of sugar icing!
Who's best to illustrate the dish if not someone from the region? We have invited Marie, part of our French Teaching Team and a passionate homecook, to help you discover this famous dish of her home town.
Though it's mainly a demo cooking class, you will have chances to participate in stages of the preparation. You will also get the bilingual recipe in English & French so that you may try it at home.
