The exhibition

Nouvelle Vague - New Wave is a tribute to the French New Wave, an influential art film movement from the late 1950s that explored narrative and existential themes in a documentary style.

La Galerie Paris 1839 presents a retrospective of Chantal Stoman’s works, including series like Nouvelle Vague, Visiting Paris, Tokyo Trip, Copacabana, New Orleans, and Suntory. These series highlight her distinctive artistic style, connecting diverse locations, moments, and atmospheres as chapters of the same story.

Stoman integrates accessories like shoes, bags, glasses, and hats to set scenes that go beyond fashion, becoming keys to unlock character-driven narratives. Her cinematographic images emphasize relationships between characters, their environments, and reflections of themselves. Each figure in her work plays a central role, with no secondary parts.

Her narrative approach resonates with the French New Wave ethos, telling stories that invite viewers to engage and complete them. This exhibition offers a unique exploration of her artistry and storytelling
