Talk with Steven Choi : Le Petit Prince
When the Little Prince meets Hong Kong
In 2020, coinciding with the 120th birthday of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the
author of "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince),
local illustrator Steven Choi (蔡景康)made
history by becoming the first Chinese artist to be officially authorized to reinterpret this timeless
novella. This is an event in itself. But it didn't end there; a sequel was
published the following year, depicting the long-awaited next chapter for the Little Prince.
In addition to illustration books, Steven has also engaged in a collaboration with Kaiyodo(海洋堂),
the renowned Japanese toy brand, to create a collection of designer toys inspired by this classic tale.
We are delighted to have Steven join us at the Alliance Francaise to share with us some behind-the-scenes of his projects and
creative journey. On the day of the event, Steven and his team will also showcase their Le Petit Prince books and figure
collection, waiting for you to take home.
Le Petit Prince Part I & II
Written in 1942, "Le Petit Prince" was published in English and French the following year. The story follows the boy with iconic blonde hair who visits various planets, including Earth. The French novella has since kept growing in global popularity and became a worldwide phenomenon: it has now been translated into 559 languages, becoming the second most translated work, trailing only behind the Bible.
Steven is the first Chinese artist to be authorized by POMASE (Pour L'oeuvre et la mémoire d'Antoine de Saint Exupéry - Succession de Saint Exupéry-D'Agay), the official Saint Exupéry heritage management body, to illustrate the book and create a sequel.
