Synergy à la française : a documentary about French Baroque music and dance
Discover the new Concerto da Camera's documentary about Baroque Music and Dance
In this documentary, Concerto da Camera brings to Hong Kong the artistry that Louis XIV sought to cultivate: music and dance as the epitome of aristocratic elegance.
Originating in Italy, the Baroque period spread across Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. The term "Baroque," from the Portuguese word baroco, meaning "irregularly shaped pearls," initially held a negative connotation, seen as a decline from the Renaissance.
This is surprising, given that France, under Louis XIV, was Europe’s most powerful monarchy, fostering influential artistic and musical
styles that impacted nations such as England and Germany. This documentary seeks to highlight the unique characteristics of
French Baroque music.
Since its founding in 2004, Concerto da Camera has brought unique,
innovative chamber music and arts programmes to increase public interest in classical music in Hong Kong.
