Dany Laferrière: Why do we read?

À propos de Dany Laferrière :

Dany Laferrière nait et grandit sur l'île d'Haïti. Il est élevé en grande partie par sa grand-mère dans la commune de Petit-Goâve. Plus tard, il retourne vivre à Port-au- Prince où il exerce le métier de journaliste. De peur d'être inquiété pour son activité et ses idées politique, il quitte précipitamment en 1976 et reçoit l'asile à Montréal. Il y continue son activité d'écrivain et reçoit le prix Médicis en 2009 pour son roman L'Énigme du retour. En 2015 il entre à l'Académie Française et devient le deuxième membre de cette institution à n'avoir jamais possédé la nationalité française. 

About Dany Laferrière: 

Dany Laferrière was born and grew up in Haiti. He was raised for the most part by his grandmother in the small city of Petit-Goâve. Later he goes back to Port-au-Prince where he becomes a journalist. By fear of being in danger because of his activity and his political stands, he leaves for Canada in 1976. He continues to write and receives the Médicis Prize in 2009 for his novel L'Énigme du retour. In 2015 he joins the Académie Française as the second member to ever be a part of the institution without having ever held the French nationality.
