1 . How can I know my level of French?

For children and teens:
- Complete beginners, please enroll in T101 (Teenagers) or E101 (Children) directly.
- For non-beginners, please contact us to arrange an oral placement test with one of our teachers.
For adults:
- For complete beginners, please enroll in A101 (Adults) directly.
- For non-beginners, please take our online placement test, it will be followed later on by an oral assessment with one of our teacher.

2 . What are the term dates?

AFHK 2019 Term dates:
Please pay attention for the special arrangement for the Winter Term due to renovation work at Jordan Centre.
Winter Term: 9 Jan > 26 Mar (Wanchai & Shatin Centre) - 11 Jan > 28 Mar (Jordan Centre )

Our courses
3 . How does the placement test for adults work?

The test is for new students who have some knowledge of French.

Step 1: Online Written Test (approx 15 mins)
Once submitted, we will contact you within 2 working days to schedule the oral assessment.
Step 2: Oral assessment with AF Teacher (approx 10 mins)
This short conversation in French will help our teacher assess your oral skills in order to place you at the right level.
Step 3: Register for your Class
HK$200 (Written + Oral) deductible from tuition fees upon registration at Alliance Française within 3 months. (Deduction cannot be done for online registration)

4 . I have interrupted the lessons for over 6 months, do I need to take a placement test?

Yes, learners who have interrupted their lessons in AF for over 6 months are also required to take a placement test.

5 . How can I apply for a certificate of attendance?

You can send an email to, or with your personal details and the level you would like to apply for. You will be contacted once the certificate is ready for collection.

6 . Can I apply for the Continuing Education Fund for the French course?

Applicants who started their course after 31 July 2014 are NOT eligible to claim reimbursement from CEF.

7 . Can I change my class after registration?

For learners who wish to transfer to another class at the same level due to personal reasons, please apply for class transferal by filling in an application form with your reasons of transferal.
For learners who wish to transfer to a higher level, an approval from the teacher is needed.
Application time for class-transfer is indicated in the STUDENT MEMO which is distributed upon registration. There is a $100 administrative fee for any transfer made after this period.
Please note that all transfers from one course to another will be considered on a case-by-case basis, AFHK reserves the right to accept or reject any such application.

8 . Does AFHK provide any private lesson?

We do organise private corporate classes however we do not offer any one-on-one classes. We offer two types of classes in general: standard classes for 8-16 students and small classes for 5-9 students.

9 . Can I reserve a place for the course?

The registration is on a first-come-first-served basis upon full payment. We highly recommend you to register as soon as possible to guarantee a place.

10 . What language will be used in class?

French is the main language in class with the help of English.

11 . Can I go to Jordan/Shatin centre to register a course held at Wanchai centre?

Yes, you can register and pay at all of our centres located in Wanchai, Jordan or Shatin.

12 . Is there any exam during the course?

Yes, there is an internal examination held in the second last lesson for some certain levels, e.g. A103, B1M1U2… You may also check with your teacher.
