Ciné-Club - Elevator To The Gallows

  • Wednesday September 20, 2017
A self-assured businessman murders his employer, with help from the employer's wife, who is his mistress, thereby unintentionally provoking an ill-fated chain of events.

Times (UK): "Elevator to the Gallows was the perfect opening to the French New Wave in 1958."

The Guardian: "What a supremely stylish and watchable picture it is."

The Daily Telegraph: "Few debuts come punchier, cooler, and more influential than Louis Malle's 1958 thriller."

Télérama: "Miles Davis' trumpet improvises to accompany Jeanne Moreau wandering through the streets. It seems to express the young woman's ineffable helplessness."
